UNLISTED CS 20-pounder Read Shell

📜 Description

This is an extremely rare smooth sided Read projectile for the 20-pounder Parrott rifle (3.67-inch diameter)! After a thorough search I could not find this projectile listed in any reference book! This shell is considered to be extremely long for the caliber of gun that would have fired it. This shell measures at a whopping 12 1/2 inches, the closest shell that I could find lengthwise to this one measured at 10 1/4" tall.
The shell has the ability to be fitted with a wooden fuze plug which is missing, as well as a wrought iron sabot. This projectile would be a great addition to any artillery collection!
