Memphis Military Antiques
Memphis Military AntiquesThis is an original example of a very neat artillery shell! This is a Schenkl shell, but not just any normal Schenkl shell. This is a 30-pounder Schenkl shell for the 30-pounder Parrott rifle (4.2" dia.). This shell would have had a paper mache sabot that has long since rotted away. This shell was reportedly recovered in the Vicksburg, Mississippi area, but that's just verbal provenance. This shell still retains its original Schenkl fuze which reads "J.P.Schenkl PAT OCT 16, 1861". This shell rates as a rarity 7 in Jack Bell's heavy artillery book (page 362).
This shell has been cleaned, coated, and rendered inert. Please see pictures for details!
