This is an honest example of a US Model 1872 Shako hat that dates to the Indian War era. This particular hat is made by Baker & McKenney Military goods in New York, they produced uniform hats for the US Government. This hat is marked with their maker mark on the inside of the hat.
This hat has some issues, its missing virtually all of its furniture except for the gold colored trim. The liner is not in the best of condition, there is a slight push on the rim and the visor is 90% detatched so it must be handled carefully. However, despite its issues it is real and has not been repaired.
